THE COMPUTER SCIENCE

Classification of computer by size

On the basis of size,we can classify computer into five groups:mobile computers, microcomputers, minicomputers, mainframescomputers, and supercomputers.

Mobile computers

Mobile computers are the smallest computers, designed to be carried around by users.laptops, tablets, personal data assistants(PDAs),and portable media players(PMPs) are all mobile computers.

Mini computers

Mini are larger than microcomputers, typically the same size as a refrigerator. Minicomputers were first produced in the 1960s.In the 1980s, they were replaced by microcomputers, which have become smaller and more powerful over time. The CDC 160A, DEC PDP, and SDS-92 are examples of minicomputers.

Super computers

Super computers are largest and most powerful computers. They often occupy whole rooms. They can process trillions of instructions per second.Governments and large industries use them for work that requires a lot of numeric calculation, such as weather forecasting. The Cray-1 and IBM ASCI White are examples of super computers.
